BIOGUARD is a line of dressings featuring a novel cationic biocide that kills pathogens within the dressings. The result is a line of dressings that provides a barrier to bacterial penetration protecting patients from external contaminants, a reduction in bacteria and other pathogens from wound fluid, and also protection against cross-contamination to the caregiver during dressing changes. While the shift from traditional wound care (woven and non-woven dressings) to advanced wound care (moist wound healing based dressings) has widely expanded over the past 30 years, the majority of wounds are still managed with traditional wound care bandages. Unfortunately, whether chronic or acute in nature, these wounds are at risk of infection. Standard traditional wound care dressings, which are designed to help expose wounds to air to facilitate the drying process, are, for the most part, unequipped to prevent infections from forming. In fact, it has been estimated that 2.7% of all surgical procedures are complicated with a Surgical Site Infection (SSI) and that the average incremental cost of an SSI is roughly $25,546. Commonly available antimicrobial dressings are typically not utilized as part of a facility's infection control program due to several issues: 1.The dressings are too expensive 2.The antimicrobial, to some degree, is toxic to good cells 3.The antimicrobial leaches out from the dressing, potentially disrupting wound healing and also potentially causing a risk of forming resistant strains of pathogens BIOGUARD is designed to overcome those objections, in order to provide a facility that can be used cost-effectively on each and every wound, with no associated toxicity to the wound, and no risk of creating resistant strains

BIOGUARD dressings provide clinicians with cost-effective, fast and long-lasting dressings to be used as part of their overall infection protection programs. 4-log (99.99%) kill rates in 10 minutes and continued activity for 24 hours make BIOGUARD dressings extremely effective, even in the presence of wound fluid or other proteinaceous fluids.

The dressings have been shown to have bactericidal kill rates against a broad spectrum of pathogens, including the following:

Time Staph. aureus E. coli P. aeruginosa
    1 min 99.98780 % 96.99842% 99.98205%
